Lost in Translation

New Art From New York and Other Places part XIII

Opening reception: Saturday, August 13, 12.00 – 16.00

Gallery Poulsen presents Lost in Translation – New Art From New York and Other Places part XIII, our annual summer exhibition characterized by its diverse visual expressions and a long list of participating artists. The title of this year’s exhibition is borrowed from Sofia Coppola’s 2003 film by the same name, wherein two people are looking for meaningful relations in a world that appears to be foreign and unapproachable to them. With our Lost in Translation, we likewise wish to create a space where a common doubt or disconnection can act as a catalyst for personal connections across cultural differences. These connections are given the opportunity to arise when one allows art to participate in the dialogue, letting it become the meeting point between people from widely different backgrounds, revealing that we are not alone in our search for meaning.

The title of the exhibition has been interpreted freely by the artists, which reveals a focus on how we as humans inhabit and use space, the emotions and personal development connected to this specific use, and how this space acts as a place of connection for certain groups and relations. By adopting this focus the works of the exhibition exemplify how recognizable and well-known spaces are being used in widely different ways by widely different communities and how there are more stories connected to one specific space than the ones commonly known.

True to tradition the Gallery Poulsen summer exhibition acts as a meeting point between artists in different stages of their respective careers. From artists who have been a part of the art scene for decades and participated in various exhibitions all around the world to newly hatched talents from academies in the US and Europe. The many diverse aesthetic expressions come together in our gallery in the Brown Meatpacking District, creating a detailed portrait of an innovative art world in constant development.

Lost in Translation – New Art From New York and Other Places part XIII opens on August 13th in Gallery Poulsen, Staldgade 32 from 12.00 – 16.00. A great handful of the exhibiting artists have taken the trip across the Atlantic and Europe to be present at the opening reception Saturday.

We look forward to seeing you there!
