We’re going to Miami!
Gallery Poulsen is excited and thrilled to announce, that we are participating in the Pulse Miami Beach Contemporary Art Fair this December 2014. We are presenting works by Aaron Johnson, Barnaby Whitfield, Jean-Pierre Roy, and Eric White.
These four good men have been handpicked to be the gallery’s ambassadors. They will represent the unique Poulsen spirit for the first time in Miami. We can’t wait to get this new ground under our feet and to conquer Miami’s amazing art scene!
From LA to Copenhagen
"1992 was a big year for Los Angeles. Riots, floods and earthquakes gave the city a cloud of tense, electric anxiety that made it feel like the static order of the city was irreparably fractured. It was a time that quite literally gave form to a visual narrative that I've been chasing ever since.
22 years later, while walking along the bright summer streets of Nyhaven, I found out that LA's apocalyptic energy had a huge impact on another young artist living there that year: Jokeren. Fresh off laying down tracks with some of West Coast Rap's biggest legends, the young rapper spent a few months on the other side of my hometown and it fueled his verses as it fueled my pictures. It took 20 more years before we inhabited the same city again, a city that finally unites our stories and inspired the artwork of Jokeren's newest album."
Jean-Pierre Roy, November 2014
With the same past and source of inspiration in the 90’s Los Angeles it seemed obvious to begin a collaboration, when Jean-Pierre Roy and Jokeren came across at Gallery Poulsen’s 10 Years Anniversary Show. And why not use the skilled hand of Jean-Pierre Roy to adorn the new album “Dansker” (release date Nov 17th) from Jokeren?
The result is captivating! Surrounded by spires and the harbor front Roy has caught Jokeren in a characteristic and strikingly simple context of Copenhagen. With vibrant tattoos and the Danish flag in his hands Jokeren approaches the city as a neo-cubistic godzilla.
With such an amazing outcome – from yet another cooperation within the walls of Gallery Poulsen – we could not just go about this quietly. Therefore we now offer an exclusive silkscreen print of the work in a limited edition, handmade in New York, and signed by Jean-Pierre Roy.
Introducing: Poulsen Edition
As an extension of the project mentioned above we would like to introduce the concept of Poulsen Edition! We have already for several years offered editions of selected artworks, but now we strike to expand this tendency with a new subpage on our website exclusively for editions.
In addition to the amazing work by Jean-Pierre Roy, we just received this new cool photogravure "Captain Elvy" by Jacob Dahlstrup hot of the presses. "Captain Elvy" will be a part of Dahlstrup's upcoming solo show.
